Antananarivo

Antananarivo (commonly known as Tana) is the capital and largest city of the island of Madagascar.  Situated inland, Tana is a town of great activity.  The hustle and bustle of the town can be quite overwhelming at first, traffic seems to have no pattern here, with sellers and motorcycles weaving themselves amongst the vehicles!

The city is built on a hill and exploring the multitude of historical buildings, architectural sites and attractions is highly recommended.  The best way to explore is on foot, but bear in mind that it is not for the faint hearted as you will be climbing up some of the city’s ancient stone steps and streets!

You can find anything in Tana – from sunglasses and raw meat to embroidered linens and leather goods – the list is endless!  It’s a great place to pick up some unique Malagasy souvenirs.

Our tours all start and end in Antananarivo, and typically include at least one night in the city.  Ivato International Airport is situated around 15km from the town making it easily accessible and a great place to get your first and / or last glimpse of Madagascar.
