Ruaha National Park has gained a reputation amongst safari connoisseurs for its unique ecological and geographical character, offering a cross-section of species and a climate that is unique to the country. It is the largest National Park in Africa, and the feeling of remoteness and the spirit of adventure are immense.

Whilst being the largest National Park in Tanzania, Ruaha also holds a special significance as it covers a unique transition zone where the Eastern and Southern biomes intersect offering an extraordinary diversity of animals, plants and birds. There are upwards of 560 species of birds; half of all Tanzania’s birds may be glimpsed in this park making it one of the continents premier birding destinations.

Ruaha also holds one of the greatest populations of elephant in any African park, buffalo gather in large herds as well as giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion and leopard. The rarer, less-seen creatures can also be found including sable and roan antelope, dikdik, greater and lesser kudus, Grants gazelle, honey badgers and is second to only Selous Game Reserve for the largest population of wild dog.

Jongomero (as Day 1)

The Reserve is the largest in Africa, spanning 55,000km² and is four times larger than the Serengeti.  Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Selous’ riverine wilderness and diverse habitat creates the perfect environment for a wealth of animals of all shapes and sizes as well as support an extraordinary array of different vegetation types.

Selous has over 2,100 species of plants, in excess of 400 varieties of birds, more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population, over 120,000 buffalos, and the Reserve's 40,000 hippo and 4,000 lion are probably the largest populations on the continent, not to mention it is home to the planet’s largest population of rare wild dogs; giving guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic animals in true unspoilt landscape.

Explore on Foot - Start the day on a game walk, heading out on Selous’ most privileged of experiences. Accompanied by an experienced guide and an armed ranger, walk out into Africa’s largest wilderness, learn about the complex eco-system that it embraces, encounter the thrills and be enthralled at the wonder of being at the heart of nature.
