Kenya - Sample Itineraries

14 Day – Nairobi – Samburu – Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara – Nairobi – Tsavo – Amboseli

The following should be taken as an example, as all itineraries will be tailormade to meet your individual requirements and will be more detailed.  All itineraries can be designed to suit all timeframes and budgets and can include any mix of accommodation from camping to luxury lodges.

Day 1 - Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will get straight into your safari and will make the journey north to Samburu National Reserve.  Here you will have your first chance to see the amazing wildlife that Kenya has on offer.  As well as searching for the ‘big 5’, you should keep your eyes peeled for Grevy’s zebra and gerenuk.

 

Day 2 - Samburu National Reserve

Today you have a full day to further explore Samburu.

 

Day 3 - Samburu National Reserve to Aberdares National Park

After an early start you will start to head south to the Aberdares National Park.  

 

Day 4 - Aberdares National Park to Lake Nakuru National Park

You will spend the morning on a game drive within the park, before heading on to Lake Nakuru National Park.  Look out for the flamingos and other waterbirds surrounding this great lake.  Leopards are also often sighted here so make sure you keep a good look out!

 

Day 5 - Lake Nakuru National park to Masai Mara Game Reserve

From Lake Nakuru you make the journey on to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.  

 

Day 6 - Masai Mara Game Reserve

You have a full day to spend within the reserve.

 

Day 7 - Masai Mara Game Reserve to Nairobi

After a morning drive in the Mara, you head back to Nairobi.

 

Days 8 & 9 - Nairobi

You have two full days in Nairobi.  There are a number of different activities that you can partake in whilst here including, a visit to feed the giraffes at the Giraffe Centre, learn more about orphaned elephants and rhino at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, get your own ‘Out of Africa’ experience at Karen Blixens house, pick up souvenirs at Bomas of Kenya or take a drive in Nairobi National Park.

 

Day 10 - Nairobi to Tsavo East & West National Parks

Today you make your way from Nairobi to Tsavo.  Divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West, it is one of Kenyas oldest and largest national parks.  Famous for its huge elephant herds, Tsavo is also home to a whole variety of species.

 

Day 11 - Tsavo

A full day to further explore Tsavo

 

Day 12 - Tsavo to Amboseli

From Tsavo you make your way on to Amboseli National Park.  With Mount Kilimanjaro as it’s backdrop, Amboseli is great for both animal and bird life.

 

Day 13 - Amboseli National Park

A full day within Amboseli.

 

Day 14 - Amboseli to Nairobi

After an early morning game drive you will begin your return journey to Nairobi.

 

14 Day – Nairobi – Amboseli – Chyulu Hills – Lewa Downs – Masai Mara – Kenyan Coast

Day 1 - Nairobi

You will arrive in Nairobi and have the day rest of the day free to recover from your flight and start to explore the sights and sounds of this beautiful country.  A number of activities are on offer if your timings allow including the Giraffe Centre and Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

 

Day 2 - Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

After an early breakfast you will make your way to Amboseli National Park, where you will have time to search out the famous elephants.  The bulls have some of the largest tusks in Kenya.

 

Day 3 - Amboseli to Chyulu Hills

After a morning drive in Amboseli you will make the short journey to Chyulu Hills National Park.  With its volcanic landscape and plentiful wildlife, it is a fascinating park.  

 

Day 4 - Chyulu Hills to Nairobi to Lewa

Today you will make your way to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the conservation and development work that is being undertaken.

 

Days 5 & 6 - Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

You have two full days to explore the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.  Look out for the rhino and Grevy’s zebra as well as the big cats.  As well as game drives and nature trails, you can take time to relax and enjoy the facilities at your accommodation.

 

Day 7 - Lewa to Masai Mara

You will leave Lewa after a morning drive and make your way to the Masai Mara.  The open plains offer great opportunities for wildlife viewing so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.

 

Days 8 & 9 - Masai Mara

Two full days to explore the Mara.

 

Day 10 - Masai Mara to Mombasa

Today you leave the ‘big 5’ of the Mara and make your way to the Kenyan coast.   Relaxing on the beautiful beaches is a great way to end your Kenyan experience.

 

Days 11-14 -Mombasa

You are free to explore the Kenyan coast before making your way back to Nairobi.   Whilst you make just want to spend time on the beach with a good book, there are plenty of other activities on offer for those that want to be a little more energetic.  Popular activities include swimming, diving and snorkelling in the marine parks, visiting the cultural attractions such as the Gedi Ruins in and around Mombasa or continuing to spot wildlife in the nearby reserves.  It’s down to you!
