Destinations

Africa is the worlds second largest continent, covering an area of approximately 30 million km², encompassing 54 countries (48 mainland and 6 island states) and around 750 million people.

Africa is a continent of diversity and contrasts and provides visitors with a wealth of features to explore.  It is the only continent that stretches from the northern temperate to the southern temperate zones with a climate that ranges from tropical to sub-arctic.   The northern half of the continent is primarily desert and very arid with the central and southern areas containing both savannah plains and dense forest areas.

ecoTravel Africa is committed to organising safari holidays that offer visitors to the continent an amazing experience, but that also make a contribution to conservation and development efforts.  Whilst our itineraries offer all you would expect from a typical safari, by choosing to travel with us, you do so with the knowledge that you are making a contribution and commitment to keep Africa wild for future generations.

ecoTravel Africa specialises in travel to destinations all over the continent.  Some of the most popular countries are featured in depth on this site, however, if you are interested in travelling elsewhere, please get in touch as we have travelled extensively across the continent and will be able to help you make the most of your experience.

Africa has one of the worlds largest density and diversity of free-range wild animals, with many vulnerable species.  It is also home to over 2,000 bird species, 1400 of which are endemic to the continent.   However, biodiversity across the continent is under threat.   With the main threats coming from population growth, intensification of agriculture, logging, habitat alteration and industrialisation, it is important that conservation and development management plans and education programmes are put in place to try to mitigate this situation.
