Namibia - Sample Itineraries

 

 

Day 1 - Arrive Windhoek

Take time to recover from your flight and explore the sights and sounds of Windhoek.

 

Day 2 - Windhoek to Okonjima

After a journey of around 350km, the majority of which is on tarred roads, you will arrive at Okonjima, the home of the AfriCat Foundation.  You are then free to spend the day learning more about the animals and the conservation activities that the foundation is working on.  There are a number of activities available including game drives and cheetah safaris.

 

Day 3- Okonjima to Etosha National Park

This morning you can either enjoy another activity at Okonjima or journey straight on to Etosha National Park.  Driving time today will only be around 3 hours, so you should have plenty of time to start to explore Etosha before nightfall.

 

Days 4 and 5 - Etosha National Park

In order to maximise your wildlife viewing opportunities you need to be up early.  The roads within the park are clearly marked and a number of waterholes exist that are often frequented with various mammal and bird species.  You have two full days to explore all the park has to offer.  

 

Day 6 - Etosha to Damaraland

Along your route today you will have chance to take in the Petrified Forest & the bushmen rock engravings at Twyfelfontein.  With the Brandberg Mountains as your backdrop, the local guides will be able to provide you with a fascinating insight into years gone by and how these phenomena came to be.

 

Day 7 - Damaraland to Cape Cross/Swakopmund

After an early morning visit to the famous Brandberg White Lady rock painting, it's time to move on to Cape Cross.  A visit to the Cape Cross Seal Colony is a must!  Whilst it's possible to have a relaxing stay in Cape Cross itself, most visitors will want to head on to explore the more vibrant Swakopmund and enjoy an afternoon of adventure activities.

 

Day 8 - Cape Cross/Swakopmund to Sossusvlei

There may be time to fit in an early morning activity this morning, before journeying on to Sossusvlei.  There's just time to enjoy the sun coming down over Elim Dune before vacating the park for the evening.

 

Day 9 - Sossusvlei

The race is on this morning to get to the top of your chosen dune, be it Dune 45 or Sossusvlei,  before sunrise.  You will want to be at the park gates as soon as they open so that you can get into the park as early as possible.  Visits to Hidden Vlei and Dead Vlei are also best enjoyed in the early morning before the sun gets too high.  On your way out of the park you can visit Sesriem Canyon.  The high sides of the canyon offer some protection from the hot sun.

 

Day 10 - Sossusvlei to Luderitz

The journey from Sossusvlei to Luderitz is quite long and so an early start is recommended.  You can spend the remainder of the day exploring Luderitz.

 

Day 11 -  Luderitz to Fish River Canyon Park

After a morning visit to the old town of Keetmanshoop or additional time in Luderitz, you will travel on to the Fish River Canyon Park

 

Day 12 - Fish River Canyon National Park

You have the day to relax and explore the Fish River Canyon National Park.

 

Day 13 - Fish River Canyon Park to Kalahari Desert

Driving away from Fish River Canyon Park you will enter the Kalahari Desert, which makes an interesting backdrop.  Keep an eye out for the species that have made this remote arid location their home.

 

Day 14 - Kalahari Desert to Windhoek

This morning you will make your way back to Windhoek for your departure from Namibia.

 

The following should be taken as an example, as all itineraries will be tailormade to meet your individual requirements and will be more detailed.  All itineraries can be designed to suit all timeframes and budgets and can include any mix of accommodation from camping to luxury lodges.

14 day - Waterberg - Etosha - Damaraland - Swakopmund - Sossulsvlei - Luderitz - Kalahari

Day 1 - Arrive Windhoek

After a long drive, you will be able to relax and unwind.  A sunset river cruise is highly recommended and a great end to the day.

 

Day 7 - Rundu/Popa Falls to Mudumu National Park

A chance to begin to explore the Mudumu National Park in the heart of the Caprivi Strip.

 

Day 8 - Mudumu National Park

A full day to enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive within the park.   Other activities are also available including visits to the local village and school.

 

Day 9 - Mudumu National Park to Mahango Game Reserve/Bwabwata Park

Today you start to make your way back along the Caprivi Strip with a visit to the Mahango Game Reserve which forms part of the largr Bwabwata Park.

 

Day 10 - Mahango Game Reserve to Waterberg Plateau Park

After an early morning game drive you will leave the Caprivi area and make your way to the Waterberg Plateau Park.  Here you will get a chance to unwind after a long drive and take in a sundowner whilst watching the sunset over the mountains.

 

Day 11 - Waterberg Plateau Park

A full day to enjoy the Waterberg Plateau Park.  There are a number of different walking and hiking trails within the park for both novice and experienced hikers alike.

 

Day 12 - Waterberg Plateau Park to Erindi Private Game Reserve

A chance to find out more about the conservation and development efforts at the reserve.  

 

Day 13 - Erindi Private Game Reserve

A full day at the reserve to enjoy all the activities on offer.

 

Day 14 - Erindi Private Game Reserve to Windhoek

After breakfast you will start to make your way back to Windhoek.

14 Day - Okonjima - Etosha - Kavango & Caprivi - Waterberg - Erindi
