South Africa - Sample Itineraries
Days 1 and 2 – Cape Town
When you arrive in Cape Town you have a couple of days to experience all the busy metropolis has to offer.
Day 3 – Stellenbosch Winelands
After breakfast you will leave your accommodation and travel to the nearby Winelands. You can spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful town of Stellenbosch with it’s numerous attractions and museums.
Day 4 - Stellenbosch Winelands
You have a full day to tour the vinyards. It’s also an opportunity to learn more about the community vineyard projects that operate within the area.
Day 5 - Stellenbosch to Swartberg Nature Reserve
Today you will journey on to the Swartberg Nature Reserve in the Oudtshoorn District. Here you will have chance to explore the reserve which has been named as a World Heritage Site. As well as containing beautiful scenery and wildlife, walking in the park may bring you into contact with some of the ancient rock paintings and artifacts for which the reserve is famous.
Day 6 - Swartberg Nature Reserve to Botlierskop Private Nature Reserve
After a leisurely breakfast, you have more time to explore the Swartberg Nature Reserve, before heading on to the Cango Wildlife Ranch. The ranch is one of the oldest and biggest cheetah contact centres and offers visitors the chance to interact closely with these magnificent creatures. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the breeding programme and other conservation issues that the ranch is involved in. As well as an opportunity to view the wildlife at the ranch, there are also a variety of activities available from which to choose. After a fun packed day you will travel on to the Botlierskop Nature Reserve.
Days 7 and 8 - Botlierskop Nature Reserve
You will have a full day to explore the reserve and partake in the activities on offer. A trip to the nearby Featherbed Nature Reserve is also highly recommended as it gives visitors a chance to explore the area from the water.
Day 9 - Botlierskop Nature Reserve to Tsitsikamma National Park
Today you journey on to Tsitsikamma National Park where you will have chance to explore the park, one of the largest marine protected areas in the world. Here you can choose to spend your time walking, snorkeling, diving, canoeing or on any number of activities that are available.
Day 10 – Tsitsikamma National Park
A full day to experience the activities in the park.
Day 11 – Tsitsikamma National Park to Addo Elephant Park
After an early start you move on to the Addo Elephant Park. As well as safari drives, horse riding, hiking and 4x4 trails are available.
Day 12 - Addo Elephant Park
You have a full day to explore the park further.
Day 13 - Addo Elephant Park to Port Elizabeth
After an early morning drive through the park you make your way to the town of Port Elizabeth. Here you can explore the cultural attractions, relax on the beach or spend time picking up some last minute souvenirs to remind you of your time in South Africa.
Day 14 – Depart from Port Elizabeth to start to make your journey home
14 Day - Garden Route
Cape Town - Wineland - Swartberg - Botlierskop - Tsitsikamma - Addo - Port Elizabeth
Day 1 – Arrive Johannesburg - Graskop
You will arrive in Johannesburg and make your way straight to Graskop. You can make a stopover at the nearby ex gold mining town of Pligrims Rest along the route. Once you have checked into your accommodation and freshened up, if it’s a clear day you should journey up to Gods Window. The view is often better in the afternoon once the morning mist has had time to burn off.
Day 2 – Graskop - Blyde River Canyon – Kruger National Park
After breakfast you will make your way along the panorama route back past Gods Window and onto the other attractions. There are numerous stopping off points along the route including Lisbon Falls, Bourkes Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels. You will then arrive at the Kruger National Park in the mid afternoon.
Days 3 to 5 – Kruger National Park
You will have the opportunity to explore the different routes within the park and seek out the ‘big 5’. As well as game drives, there are also a number of other activities on offer.
Day 6 – Kruger National Park to Miliwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland
It’s another early start this morning as you make your way to the border crossing into Swaziland. Once you have been through the immigration process, you are free to make your way to the Miliwane Wildlife Sanctuary. The drive is a beautiful one and it gives you an opportunity to contrast this small country with it’s larger neighbour. As well as the opportunity to stay in a traditional beekeepers hut, Miliwane offers visitors the chance to walk, horse ride or mountain bike within the confines of the park.
Day 7 – Miliwane to St Lucia
After breakfast you will leave Miliwane and make your way back towards South Africa. There are a number of handicrafts and souvenir shops along the route which offer great momentos of your visit.
Day 8 – St Lucia
You have the whole day to explore St Lucia. You can take things easy and relax on the beach at Cape Vidal, take a boat trip or undertake one of hiking trails within the Mfabeni Wildlife Reserve.
Day 9 – St Lucia to Hlhuhlewe Imfolozi
This morning you will make your way to the Hlhuhlewe Imfolozi. As well as game drives and guided walks within the reserve, you will also have the opportunity to learn more about white rhino conservation efforts, Operation Rhino, that was started in the 1950’s.
Day 10 – Hlhuhlewe Imfolozi
A full day to explore the reserve.
Day 11 – Hlhuhlewe Imfolozi to Durban
After an early start you make your way to Durban. After the peaceful of Hlhuhlewe Imfolozi, Durban is quite a contrast. You have the best part of the day to explore the city and it’s attractions.
Day 12 – Durban to Champagne Valley
After breakfast you will start to make your way to the Champagne Valley. Here you are in the heart of the Drakensberg Mountains and the scenery is splendid. Walking and hiking are the best ways to explore this area, although horse trails do offer a slightly easier alternative!
Day 13 – Royal Natal National Park
You will have a full day to explore the park – either on foot or on horseback.
Day 14 – Royal Natal National Park to Johannesburg
If you are up early you will have time for a walk in the park this morning, before commencing your journey to Johannesburg to catch your flight home.
14 Day – Kruger & Kwazulu Natal
