Zimbabwe - Sample Itineraries

The following should be taken as an example, as all itineraries will be tailormade to meet your individual requirements.  All itineraries can be designed to suit all timeframes and budgets and can include any mix of accommodation from camping to luxury lodges.

8 Days - Victoria Falls -  Hwange National Park - Victoria Falls

Day 1 – Victoria Falls

Upon arrival at Victoria Falls airport you will be met and transferred to the stunning Gorges Lodge.

 

Situated on the western tip of Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Park are probably two of the most famous attractions that visitors to the country come to experience.   The spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, is located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.   Whilst many come here just to be amazed by the stunning waterfalls, for the more adventurous there are a whole host of activities on offer.

 

Upon arrival you will have chance to settle into your accommodation and enjoy a leisurely sundowner before sitting down to a sumptuous dinner right on the edge of the gorge – definitely not something for those afraid of heights!

Situated on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, Gorges Lodge offer some of the most spectacular views in Southern Africa and provides a peaceful and idyllic base from which to experience Victoria Falls.

 

Just ten, stone under thatch, chalets make up the lodge, all situated amidst lush gardens with stunning views across the gorge and of the pounding Zambezi River 200 metres below!  All rooms are ensuite and have either a balcony or veranda looking over the fabulous gorge – the perfect place to chill out and relax after a hectic day exploring the Falls.  

Day 2 – Victoria Falls

After breakfast, you will make your way to Victoria Falls town for a tour of the Falls.  You have the full day to explore and get involved in any activities that appeal to you!  

 

You will return to the lodge in the afternoon in time to enjoy a refreshing cold drink taking in the view over Batoka Gorge before sitting down to your evening meal.

Day 3 – Victoria Falls

After breakfast you have a full day to relax and unwind at Gorges, or to partake in some of the activities on offer in and around Victoria Falls.  Spend time in the curio market picking up some souvenirs, learn more about the Nile crocodile at the Crocodile Farm, go white water rafting or even enjoy a helicopter trip over the Falls, the choice is yours!

 

Whatever, you decide to do, we are sure that you will have a great time!  

 

You will return to the lodge in time for dinner.

Day 4 – Victoria Falls – Hwange National Park

After breakfast, you will begin your journey towards Hwange National Park.  The total journey will take in the region of 4 hours, with a ‘refreshment’ stop at Halfway House after around 2.5 hours.  At this ‘just over halfway’ point, you will switch to a 4x4 vehicle as you begin to enter the National Park and make your way to camp.  

 

At 14,500 km2, Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s great Parks and is home to over 100 species of mammals, including nineteen large herbivore and eight large carnivore species, and nearly 400 species of birds.  Hwange is true elephant country and much of the game viewing relates to magnificent opportunities to view these largest land mammals in a completely wild state.

 

The Bomani Lodge estate is in an exclusive 5000 acre portion of Ngamo forest adjacent to the Ngamo gate into Hwange National Park.  

 

You will arrive at the lodge in time to enjoy a late lunch before departing out onto your first real game drive.  You will have chance to enjoy sundowners by the Pan, before returning to the lodge in time to freshen up before sitting down to your evening meal.

Bomani Tented Lodge

Situated in a private concession on the edge of the magnificent Ngamo Plain, in the remote and unspoilt south eastern corner of Hwange National Park, Bomani is famous for its unique scenery as well as its large herds of elephants, plethora of other animals and fabulous birdlife.

 

Just 10 spacious tents make up this camp, all with ensuite bathrooms and fabulous décor, each providing guests with fabulous views over the surrounding wilderness.

Day 5 – Hwange National Park

You will have an early start this morning as you enjoy a morning in Hwange, you will have the chance to exploring both from the comfort of your vehicle as well as on foot, with a fascinating walk amongst the acacia forests that surround Ngamo Plains.

 

You will return to camp for brunch after which you can either take a siesta, or spend a couple of hours in the blind overlooking the camps waterhole.  

 

The afternoon will be spent on another game drive with a stop for sundowners at Major Pan.  You will then return to the lodge under the cover of night during which you get the chance to seek out some of the nocturnal creatures that frequent the area.  

 

You will have an opportunity to freshen up, before drinks around the campfire and a hearty supper.

Day 6 – Hwange National Park

Today you will be spending a full day in the park, you will not only be enjoying a game drive, but at the same time, will also be able to drop off fuel and oil for the waterholes as well as rations and supplies for the pump attendants that run the pumps in the south eastern region of the park.  Waterholes are an incredibly important resource and you will often find a whole variety of animals congregating around them.  

 

You will make a stop by one of the waterholes for a leisurely picnic lunch before a leisurely game drive back to the lodge, going from Pan to Pan.

 

You can then enjoy refreshments around the campfire before your well-deserved evening meal.

Day 7 – Hwange National Park

This morning you will have the opportunity to visit the nearby village of Ngamo and to see the local school, followed by a tour of some of the community projects that the camp supports.  Located around 15 minutes’ drive from the lodge, Ngamo provides visitors with the chance to see real village life in rural Matabeland for themselves; you will not only learn more about the tasks and activities that must be carried out each day, but will also be able to talk with the local villagers and find out more about their culture and beliefs.  The school visit is always a fantastic experience and for those that want to get ‘hands-on’, the headmaster and children are always keen for opportunities to learn more about their visitors and to practice their language skills!

 

You will return to Bomani for a late brunch and then have the afternoon to relax, before departing on an afternoon game drive or walk.  You can even enjoy a night game drive, before heading back to camp for your supper!

Day 8 – Hwange National Park

After breakfast you will begin your journey back to Victoria Falls airport.  Again, there will be a comfort break at Halfway House, before the last leg of your journey.

 

You will be dropped at the airport for your onwards journey.
